[ He hadn't been contacted the last time, even though the announcement had said that he had an warden. This time, he decides to take the initiative.

Even if he doesn't really know the man who's supposed to be assigned to him other than a very brief discussion about the cats.]

Mister Blackwood, sir. I'm your assigned inmate this month. Do you have any orders or instructions for me?

Oh, uh-

[ this actually catches him by surprise. he's never really had an inmate contact him first. ]

Do you want to help me walk my dog?

Certainly, sir.

Just a question: does your dog bite, sir?

[ He's used to Mercury. Who, uh... tended to bite his head. Or his arm. Or pretty much anywhere he could. It wasn't that big a deal but he'd rather know so he can wear clothing he doesn't mind getting damaged.]

--oh, no, my partner trained her out of that pretty early. She's very well-behaved.

How often do you need her walked, sir?

I said with me, not for me. I usually take her out a couple times a day.

[ He swallows, audibly.]

And what time would you like me to accompany you?

[ martin winces a little at the swallow. ]

Hey, um- you can call me Martin, if you'd like? And are you free at six?

All right, sir.

I'm free all the time, s- Martin. The only jobs I have here can be done most any time.

Great. Then I'll see you on the second floor around six.

I- it's Randel, right? You don't need to call me 'mister,' either.

And yes, sir, it's Randel. The announcement said 'Oland' but Oland's just a name I made up when they enlisted me.

--enlisted? Like, um- an army?
